Dusk to Dawn Relay + Ultra

Race end: August 30, 2025 @ 7:01am MT

The course is a beautiful, flat 2-mile loop on the Bonneville Salt Flats - the fastest speedway on earth - on which you (Ultra) or your relay team of 4, 6, or 8 will see how many miles you can run from dusk to dawn (~11 hours). The Ultra runner and team who runs the most miles in each team category wins a trophy!​​​​

Grab your closest friends, family, teammates, co-workers, random strangers (not necessarily advised) and get your team together! Teams consist of 4, 6, or 8 people - or you can run solo through the Ultra category.

For your non-runner family and friends who still want to come and enjoy the night and support you - get a Party Supporter wristband! (more info on Party Supporter below)

​RULES

Every runner on your team has to run at least 1 lap (2 miles).

In order for your final lap to count, you must finish it by sunrise.

No cheating! We have zero tolerance for cheaters. Cheating means cutting corners, running with a team member's timing chip, using something other than your legs to complete a lap, etc. Be respectful, have integrity, and use your common sense.

​Penalties
-
​1st time caught cheating = individual disqualified from the race. If on a team, the miles the individual ran are deducted from the team total, but the rest of the team can keep running.

2nd time someone on your team is caught cheating = entire team disqualified.

Only one person can cross the finish line at a time. You may run with members of your team, but all other team members must exit the course 50 feet before the finish line.

You must wear a (1) front-facing light (e.g. headlamp, flashlight, light vest, etc) and a (2) rear light or reflective clothing/strip while on the course.

Apart from these rules, you make your own strategy. Decide who will run when, how many laps, who will start, finish, etc. There are no assigned legs or time slots - it's up to you! Get together and figure out how you can run the most miles from dusk to dawn.
WHAT TO EXPECT

RUNNING ON SALT
Be prepared: there will be salt. LOTS of salt. You will be running, sleeping, dancing, and partying on salt. It's one of the reasons Dusk to Dawn Relay + Ultra is awesome! Salt actually cleans up pretty easily, so don't worry...Some people say it's like running on the moon (like any of us know). It's not slippery, packed down in most areas, and feels mostly like running on a packed trail.

BASE CAMP + STARTING LINE
The Base Camp area is the hub of the race - race info & medical tent, DJ, activities, restrooms, water, food, and runner hand-off area. As the race is at night, the Base Camp will be lit with LED lights (except during the Dark Sky Hour event). The loop course is lit up with small lights on the ground and cones.

Teams can set up camp chairs, canopies, and/or cots at or near the Base Camp.

PARKING
The parking area and base camp are located about 1/2 mile off of the Salt Flats Rest Area Westbound off of I-80. The Bonneville Salt Flats are located about 1.5 hours west of Salt Lake City, UT, and about 2 hours from Provo and Layton, UT.
​
Parking will be slightly removed (about 100 feet) from the base camp and starting line to protect the runners. No cars are allowed directly in the base camp. However, you will have access to your cars to take a nap, retrieve gear, etc.

WHAT TO BRING

Due to public access of the Salt Flats at night, there may be other cars driving on the flats unaware of our event. The course will be marked and we will provide safety measures, but please do your part in keeping everyone safe

Medical support will be available at the Race Info tent.

Water, electrolyte drinks, bars, and bananas will be provided during the night. Please bring any other running fuel you need during the night.

PARTY SUPPORTER
​
We all have family and friends who want to support us, but don't want to run. The Party Supporter wristband provides that opportunity! Come support your runners and participate in all the activities (minus the running), giveaways, music, and pancake breakfast for charity. All you have to do is buy a Party Supporter wristband!
